Obituary

Duane graduated from St. Cloud High School, in a Minnesota town of the same name, where he was born and raised before settling in Portland, Oregon. It was here that he earned his four year business degree, raised ten children as a single father, and fulfilled a rewarding career mastering multiple department positions at Consolidated Freightways for 35 years before retirement. Though he spent many of his late years at his home on the Oregon coast, Duane passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 83.

Many who knew Duane would describe him as a giving and selfless person. He passionately volunteered for many community organizations, including the Astoria Senior Center Treasury, meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army, and as president of Shriner's Children's Hospital for more than a decade.

With an ambitious drive for improvement, Duane was an active member of Toastmaster's Public Speaking and Slight Edge Personal Development Center, as well as a member of Oregon Coast and Portland Elks. His desire for success paved the path to his self-started business, DBL Enterprises, pursuing IBO opportunities such as Amway and Lifemart.

Duane took immense pride in the honor to serve the country through the United States Navy for four years, followed by years of Coast Guard service.

Upon his return to civilian life, Duane enjoyed participating in a company bowling league for the length of his career. He very much cherished family gatherings, including countless trips to a Thousand Trails campground in Chehalis, Washington.

Following his passing, it is undeniable that those who have been blessed to have Duane in their lives will forever remember him as the valiant, honest, and loving man we all knew and loved.

Duane is survived by his children Corby, Michele, Tim, Shawn, Amber, DJ, and Lori; sisters Carla, Jean, and Punky; brothers Mike and Jeff; nieces Carly and Sharlene and nephew Dean; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father LaVerne Bauley, stepfather Carl Alder, mother Collette Alder, sisters Anita and Darlene, daughters Mica, Mista, and Kim, wives Pat Bauley and Laura Hail-Fenley, and grandchildren Anastasia and Jerel, and niece Carlene.

Services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 2:30 pm, preceded by visitation from Noon to 2:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will then take place at 4 pm at 15522 SE Taggart Street in Portland.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations possible be sent to Shriner's Children's Hospital in memory of Duane LaVerne Henry Bauley.
