Reverend Bobby Roy Dixon, Sr., age 79, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Florida, was a 1955 graduate of Vidalia High School, and attended South Georgia College, where he played football under the coaching of Bobby Bowden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the 101st Army Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. In 1985, he and his wife founded Christian Concepts for Living, was former pastor of the Lyons Presbyterian Church, was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia, and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was National Director of the Georgia Jaycees, and Chaplain of the Jaycees in Toombs County. He was Chairman of the Vidalia Recreation Board of Directors, Chaplain of the Toombs County Sheriff's Department, and member of the Rocky Creek Golf Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayor Hugh M. Dixon and Myrtice Dixon Young.
Reverend Dixon is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Betty T. Dixon of Vidalia; one son, Bob Dixon, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Vidalia; two daughters, Kathy Dixon Usher of Vidalia, and Lynn Dixon Dean and husband Steve of Cumming; two brothers, Wendell Dixon and wife Elaine, and Mayor Ronnie Dixon and wife Sandy, all of Vidalia; grandchildren, Rebekah Usher, Rachel Usher Sikes and husband Jordan, John Dixon and wife Elizabeth, Elizabeth Madison and husband Michael, Abigail Dixon, Paul Dixon, Katherine Harris, Anna Harris, William Harris, and Turner Harris; great-grandchildren, Katlyn McIntyre, Drew Vaughn, David Dixon, and Ansley Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Bucky Kennedy and Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00.
