Charles David "Dave" Dyer, 78, of Maryscville died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the Morey Center of Memorial Hospital of Union County surrounded by his family following a long illness.
A retired chemist, he worked for several Nestle's locations over the course of 27 years and had previously worked for the A & P Company, formerly Quaker Maid, in Terre Haute, Ind., for 20 years. He was a member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church and was a 20-year member of the Marysville, Lions Club and the Terre Haute Elks Club.
He graduated from Bloomington High School and DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and was a U.S. veteran of World War II as a Navy lieutenant junior grade. He enjoyed collecting cameras, reading, climbing mountains and vacationing with his family in Estes Park, Colo. Upon retirement, he passionately bought, sold and collected used and rare books on the mountain and arctic regions.
He waas born Dec. 26, 1922 in Carthage, Ind., the middle son of the late Everette and Estella Dayhouf Dyer.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Edith Flowers Dyer to whom he was married Oct. 10, 1950 at Centenary Methodaist Church in Terre Haute, Ind., by the Rev. Samuel Carruth, a son and three daughters, eight grandchildren, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Marysville First United Methodist Church. ... burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery.
