Jon taught high school at Salem School in Collins, Mississippi. Next, she taught electronics at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi where she met and married her husband John H. (Jack) Alley. When Jack returned from Korea, they moved with the Dupont company to Kinston, North Carolina and then to Aiken, South Carolina. In Aiken, Jon taught in public and private schools for a career that spanned 40 years.
Jon served the Lord with gladness, volunteered wherever they lived, and was an active member of Mars Hill United Methodist Church, National Teachers Association, and the Gideons Auxiliary. Jon loved her Lord, her family, gardening, reading, and baking pies.
Jon was preceded in death by her parents Dilla Elizabeth Rawls Cole and Jesse Robert Cole; brothers: S.D. Cole, William Hulon Cole, and Baby Cole; sisters Edna Earle Boyce, Cordelia Myrtrude D'Amico, Joyce Helena Allen, and Jesse Mae Bickham; as well as by her first born son John Hampton Alley Jr.
She is survived by her sister: Rhoda Ann Yawn; her brother: Carl Herman Cole and wife Elaine; her husband John H. (Jack) Alley, her daughter Patricia Jean Alley Carlisle and husband Charles Michael Carlisle, sons Stephen Cole Alley and Jose Garcia, her grandson David Michael Carlisle and wife Alexis, and great granddaughter Corinne Teresa Carlisle, grandson Stephen Daniel Carlisle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 12th, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, February 13th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mars Hill United Methodist Church, Mars Hill, North Carolina. Rev. Wiley Cooper will officiate. Burial will be held Tuesday, February 14th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Aiken, South Carolina.
