Charles Edwin Crook was married Sarah Jane McGaugh on December 26, 1870. She was the mother of Betty, Walter, Scott, Allen & Trixie Bell Crook. Sarah died in 1884 when her youngest child was only 1-1/2 years of age. On September 10, 1885 in Clay County, Missouri, he married Emily L. Haynes and their children were Maude, Ora Pearl and Mabel Crook. Emily died in 1903. In 1907, Charles married Elizabeth Ellen Holeman and they had two children: Sarah Ruth and Rachael Elizabeth Crook. Elizabeth had a young daughter, Margaret, from a former marriage to Oscar Beniah Beaver.
Charles built a house about 1/2 mile south of Mt. Pisgah Church for his third wife, Ellen and her daughter, Margaret, and his two daughters Ruth and Rachel. The house there burned, so then Charles got a job spraying fruit trees at Willow Springs, Missouri. They all moved by covered wagon 300 miles to Willow Springs. Ruth & Margaret picked string beans and strawberries for 40 cents a day. Charles built another house, but it also burned leaving the family penniless. Charles found a job as janitor at the Ankeny School House in Ankeny, Iowa. From there the family moved to a farm run by Charles Delp. Mr. Delp was a very good man. Charles' wife, Elizabeth, passed away there of an apparent heart attack and was taken to Waukee, Iowa, for burial.
Charles died in 1931 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri at the age of 77 years. He was listed as a widower when he died and was living with his son Allen Crook in Kansas City, MO. Charles Crook, Allen Crook, Pearl Crook & Trixie Crook are all buried at the Old New Garden Primitive Cemetery, Wood Heights, Ray County, MO.
