On August 15, 1861 Isaac enlisted to serve in the Civil War. He reenlisted August 5, 1864, but didn't complete his enlistment due to an injury that occured after falling from a horse, in which he received medical compensation of $12 a month.
Isaac married Martha Ann Lee on August 4, 1864 in Morris Township, Carroll County, Missouri. Together they had nine children.
They lived in Ray County, Missouri until sometime after 1880 when they moved to Douglas County.
