Larry Joseph Cagle, 67, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 4, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Joyce Mabe Cagle for 49 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Clarence Cagle and Dellamaie Graves Cagle, and beloved sister, Catherine.

Larry was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, on Friday, November 26, 1943, and grew up on a family farm. He had a wonderful childhood, there was plenty of fishing and frog gigging and all the other things young boys loved to do. There was a swimming hole and ice-cream socials on the weekends. The family grew crops of wheat, soybeans and tobacco, and raised cattle. Larry was still a farmer at heart and enjoyed his garden immensely. He was a retired Veteran of the United States Navy, having served for 21 years during the cold war. He was a Master Chief for the Navy and a submariner and had many adventures to tell.

After his Navy career, he moved with his family to Lynchburg, Virginia to begin a second career with Babcock and Wilcox. He made many friends during his years there and after retirement embarked on a third career by opening Lynchburg Hardwoods, a lumber and woodworking company. Over the years he built many beautiful pieces for customers all across the United States. He always loved the smell of fresh cut lumber so the woodworking was more a pleasure than work. He was a charter member of the Knotheads Guild, a group of dedicated woodworkers who always strive to expand their knowledge of the craft. Larry never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael Patrick Cagle and wife, Andrea and Steven Joseph Cagle and wife, Debra; five grandchildren, Luke, Andrew, Lori and Matthew Cagle and Kaleb Hedrick.

He also leaves three very special brothers Roger Cagle, Gerald Cagle and wife, Pat, Ben Cagle and wife, Shirley; a sister, Susan King and husband, Jerry, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm.

A Celebration of Larry\"™s life will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church, 7912 Union Grove Church Road, Seagrove, NC on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2 p.m.
