Sr. Marie Sheila Beatty, OP
Sr. Marie Sheila Beatty, OP, born Mary Arlene Beatty, died January 21 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 96 and in her 71st year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Beatty was born on August 21, 1920 in Lansing, Michigan, to Howard and Agnes (Torpey) Beatty. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Saginaw and received her degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian in 1949. She later pursued studies in library science.
Sr. Beatty spent 26 years ministering in education, including at St. Theresa, Detroit (1947-54); Sacred Heart, Munising (1954-55); Our Lady Gate of Heaven, Detroit (1955-63); St. Luke, Flint (1963-65); Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington (1965-71); and St. Paul, Owosso (1971-73). She later was a librarian at St. Paul, Owosso (1973-80); St. Mary, Saginaw (1980-81); Our Lady Help of Christians, Saginaw (1981-82); and St. Agatha, Redford (1982-90).
Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on January 25. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
