HOOKERTON | John Hyman Amerson, 77, of Hookerton passed away Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Black Creek Town Cemetery, Black Creek. Ted Sauls will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. John was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He was avid sportsman, who loved to hunt and fish, especially with his children and grandchildren. He was retired from DuPont and realized he loved to socialize so he began working at Bynum and Wade Country Store. John was an excellent wood carver and had a green thumb that could grow all and every flower, his yard was full of Iris', Hosta, and money plants just to name a few. John and his wife Barbara loved to travel. John will be greatly missed and thought of often with memories of fun, love, and laughter that will warm the heart. John is survived by his daughter, Tina A. Jernigan and husband James A., and Kathy A. Stocks, and his grandsons, Neil Jernigan and wife Candace, Tyler Jernigan, Luke Stocks and Jake Stocks all of Snow Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Massengill Amerson.
