In Marvin’s younger years he enjoyed roller-skating, which is how he met his wife, Marlene. He was a dedicated and respected worker for 41 years at the Freeport Vault Company (Tribute Precast). He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Massbach and a current member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport. He was also a member of the Aladdin Knights (as he loved to collect antique Aladdin lamps). Marvin was an overall handyman – he could fix just about anything and was regularly asked for help by his children. He loved woodworking and making pieces of furniture for his family. He also enjoyed cooking, playing euchre, and especially going to auctions and flea markets. Marvin was an adamant believer in education and insisted upon his children going to college - he was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He was an avid Cubs, Bears and NASCAR fan. Marvin could not believe he was able to witness the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his wife, two daughters, son, eight grandchildren, great granddaughter, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 25th at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
