Born in Patterson, Ill., he was the son of Brock Mayfield and Olive Naomi Ford Coker. He married Carol Ann Wilcox in Roodhouse, Ill., on July 22, 1956.
He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean War. Mr. Coker graduated from Roodhouse High School in 1951 and from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a Ph.D. in biochemistry and microbiology. His career was in the corn wet milling industry, working for Staley Co. in Decatur, Ill. and Hubingers/Roquette America in Keokuk, retiring in 1997. He served as chairman of the Keokuk Airport Commission for 10 years and was a member of the Keokuk Rotary Club. He was an active member of the Keokuk Evangelical Free Church and served as chairman, deacon, teacher and vocalist. His many hobbies included spinning, weaving, woodworking, chip carving and woodburning. His recently wrote a book on creation.
He is survived by his wife of Keokuk; one daughter, Susan Gunnink of Clive; three grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Coker of Bloomington, Ill.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one brother.
Funeral services were held at Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk, with the Rev. Craig Burton officiating.
