John Russell Armstrong, 102 of Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1914 to the late Thomas J. Armstrong and Lula Ainsley Armstrong and was the widower of Clarine Lane Armstrong. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a retired seaman with both Sunoco and Exxon Oil Companies, and served during WWII in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by two step-daughters, Carol Baker Fletcher and husband David of Kernersville, NC and Connie Baker Staley and husband Jack of Windsor, NC; and a sister, Lucille Ward of Raleigh, NC. He loved his entire family including all his nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, James L. Armstrong, Charles Armstrong, and Osmond Armstrong.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church with the Pastor Bryan Pease officiating and military honors rendered by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 113 Foxboro Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
