Bro. Martin was one among the oldest members of Turkey Creek Church, having joined Piney Grove Church about 1873, and in two years bringing his letter to Turkey Creek.

He has been a faithful member and has been a deacon of the church more than 25 years. He always attended the meetings regularly when he was able and was always ready to give liberally in any offering to advance God's word and help the needy. It can be said, "He was faithful in his many duties and was a blessing to all who came in contact with him.

During a long illness, which he bore so patiently, God sent the death angel Oct 29, 1909, and carried his soul away. He was nearing his 68 birthday.

"Life is short and full of troubles but he is where no sorrow ever comes.
