The soul of Laura Ann Rittgers Peitzman Emmert departed on Monday, January 8, at age 94. She resided at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.
Laura Ann Rittgers was born June 16, 1912, in Johnston, IA. Her parents, John H. and Gretchen (Trissel) Rittgers preceded her in death, as did her sister Eleanor and brother John H. (Elsie) Rittgers, Jr. Her only other sibling is Thomas E. (Phyllis) Rittgers of Ames.
She was graduated from Grimes High School and received her nurse's cap from Iowa Lutheran Hospital Nursing School. She also earned a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers' College and later returned to school and became a licensed practical nurse.
Laura married Earl L. Peitzman on February 14, 1936, and spent most of her pre-retirement years as a farm housewife, homemaker and nurse. Their only child, Lloyd John (Karen Lea) Peitzman, lives in Maplewood, MN.
Following Earl's death in February, 1978, Laura married L. Dale Emmert of Dallas Center on January 2, 1979, and gained two step-sons; Roger (Donna) Emmert of Perry and Edward (Lila) Emmert of Portage, MI. Dale passed away in April, 1995.
For the past 17 years, Laura has resided at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, where she enjoyed working on her genealogy (Rittgers, Trissel, Findley, Peitzman and Foltz) plus email communication with family and friends around the world, all who will miss her chatty messages.
Also missing her are grandchildren Linda (Kelley), Rob (Carol), James (Kym) and John (Anne) and great-grandchildren Emily, Cassie, Elizabeth, Alec, Elysia, Marissa and Myah plus many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and their families, and Sang Mi Park, who considered Laura her second mother.
Laura was confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church of Grimes and was ordained as an elder of that church in 1967. She was a church leader, serving in many capacities as well as a soloist and choir member.
Upon moving to Dallas Center, she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas Center. She also attended Panther Creek Brethren Church with her second husband, Dale.
A gracious lady with a strong Christian faith, she modeled her beliefs in mission support and personal acts of kindness to all those with whom she came to know and love.
