John "Jack" Armstrong, 88, of Ottawa, died on Thursday afternoon, December 8, 2016 at his home.

Private family services will be Tuesday, December 13,at the Mueller Funeral Home, followed by burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Jack was born on October 27, 1928 in Ottawa to John H. and Vera (Morley) Armstrong. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois Dental School. Jack was a Veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was a dentist for 55 years. He married Billie E. Balocchi on June 18, 1955 in Chicago. Jack served on the Ottawa Township High School Board of Education, and was the founder and served on the original board of the OTHS Foundation. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, and American Legion Post 33. Jack was a farmer, beekeeper, and loved his backhoe, travel, his grandchildren, plays, and the opera. He also enjoyed attending Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes and Wisconsin Badgers football games.

He is survived by 5 children, John (Jeanne) Armstrong, of Ottawa, Cindy (Duane) Lockas, of Ottawa, Julie (Pat) Donahue, of Iowa City, Brad (Karla) Armstrong, of Ottawa, and Sally (Mark) Cooper, of Ottawa, and 14 grandchildren, John, Brad, and Carlie Armstrong, Brett, Kassie, and Fielding Lockas, Bridget and Chad Donahue, Jonathan, Seth, and Gabby Cooper, and Taylor, Ethan, and Thaddeus Armstrong.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
