Ellen's parents, Michael Wheeler and Elizabeth Walsh, had come to Canada with their respective families from Ireland about 1831 and each family settled in the newly opened "wasteland" of Frampton, Quebec to begin clearing trees from the land and farming. Michael and Elizabeth married in 1840 at St-Édouard, Frampton, Quebec. By the late 1870's the whole Wheeler family migrated to Milan, New Hampshire.
Ellen and William had 5 children; Joseph, 1876; Michael, 1879; Mary "Mame", 1980; Nellie, 1883; Margaret "Maggie", 1885.
