Mother Cole was the daughter of Pastor and Mrs. Whitney (Stella Phillips) Barconey, Sr. She was one of the foremost Spiritual Mothers and community leaders in Louisiana and beyond. Although she owned property downtown, she chose to live in the poor Uptown area where she raised children, grandchildren and served her neighbors with honesty and generosity for years, respected by judges and law enforcement. She was a devotee of the St. Joseph Feast and Saint Patrick Feast observances. She had no commercial interest in sharing her spiritual gifts. She was a cancer survivor with a "big heart" and the "Mother of the Calliope". Mother Cole lived the scripture Matthew 10:8.
