Florence Ann Drake Williams of Batavia, NY, wife, mother, writer, student, world traveler and bon vivant, died Monday, October 30, 2006 in Charlottesville, Virginia from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident on the previous day.

Florence was born May 17, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the Rev. Louis W. Drake and Mary Henri Talbot Drake. Her childhood was spent in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. She graduated from high school in California, Missouri at the age of 16 and was the salutatorian of her class. She attended the University of Missouri and Columbia School of Nursing in New York City, where she received her degree in 1954.

In 1955 she met her husband, Gerald Oliver Williams, in New York City. They married in 1958 and settled in Batavia, NY. She worked as a registered nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York and Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia until 1964. Jerry and Florence had five children, Ann Elizabeth, Thomas Drake, Alice Margaret, James Sterrett, and Gerald Oliver, Jr. Florence had one brother, Louis Wesley Drake, Jr.
