Ex-Commissioner Dies


CLARION - Donald James Myers, 75, of Sligo RD 1, former Clarion County Commissioner, died at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Erie VA Hospital.

Mr. Myers was born January 18, 1895, in Piney Township, Clarion County, a son of Ambrose and Nannie Weeter Myers.

He was married on October 29, 1919 to Marion Dorothy Platt.

Mr. Myers served as a Democratic commissioner from 1956-1960.

He operated a garage in Sligo RD for 28 years and was a dealer for J.L. Case farm machinery for 25 years.

Mr. Myers was a veteran of World War I, member of the Zion Baptist Church of Reidsburg, Murphy Grange 735, where he served as master, World War I Veterans Barracks 1301, F and AM Blue Lodge of Clarion and the Coudersport Consistory.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Myers of Sligo; five daughters, Mrs. James (Nellie) Arner of Rimersburg, Mrs. Leon (Joy) Wagner of Tionesta, Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Bigley Jr., Mrs. Raymond (Jennie) Simpson, both of Sligo, and Mrs. Jack (Rosalind) Switzer of Erie; four brothers, Neuland Myers of Clarion RD 1, David Myers of Sligo RD; two Myers of Butler and Harold Myers of Sligo RD; two sisters, Mrs. June Weckerly of Sligo and Mrs. Essie Terwilliger of Parker; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bill Myers in 1958, and three infant sons.

Friends may call at the family residence in Sligo RD 1.
The body will lie in a state from noon until time of services on Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Zion Baptist Church, Rev. Bob Myers of the Reynoldsville Gospel Center and Rev. James Thomas of the Zion Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Churchville Cemetery.
