LEON DOUGLAS HICKS, 74, of Rocky Creek passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016.

Leon was born in Alachua County to the late Leonard and Mary Hicks August 14, 1942. He was a life long resident of Dixie County, and lived the last 38 years in the Rocky Creek area. Leon owned and operated Tri County Marine Services in the late 70’s before becoming an EMT and later a paramedic. He worked for Taylor County EMS for several years, before retiring from Suwanee County EMS, and then working part time for Dixie County EMS. Leon was an active member of the Fist Baptist Church of Jena, and was a teacher for the Young Peoples Sunday School Class and the Sunday School Superintendent. In his spare time Leon enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Leon is survived by his wife of 38 years Linda Hicks, a son Lucas Hicks (Monica), a daughter Trenda Reid (Robert), his brothers Everett Hicks (Diane) and Bobby Hicks (Carol), a sister Francis Knight (D.K.), his grandchildren Lauren Hacht (Blake) and Tommy Slaughter (Alison), his great-grandchildren Hailey Hacht, Madlyn Hacht, and Ethan Hacht, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by a son Logan Hicks and a daughter Luann Hicks.

Funeral services for Leon will be held 12:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Jena in Jena, Florida. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
