He married his life partner Lois Marie Toone on March 1, 1941 in his parents' home in Corsicana. They were married over 50 years.
James served in the United States Army Air Corps both as a pilot and a flying instructor during World War II. While there, he authored the Instrument Training Manual for the Air Force.
He and Lois had three children:
Dianne Sharon West (Short), born 22 April 1943 in Independence, Kansas at the Air Force Base, and her twin sister, Joanne Tinkle West (Cornish), born 29 hours later on 23 April 1943.
Their third daughter, Bonnie Rebecca West (named after Bonnie Ruth Slauson), was born in Corsicana on 11 February 1947.
James worked hard all his life: beginning as a boy in the Corsicana City Book Store, owned by his father. (He always said he "worked before and after school and all day Saturday.") After the War, he and Lois returned to Corsicana and he joined his father and brother at Wolf Brand Products. After their father's retirement, Wolf Brand Products was run by James and his brother Doyle until they sold it to Quaker Oats in 1957.
James/Jimmy/Jim/Tink/Daddy/Da was a joy to know, as he never met a stranger. He was the best of men and is sorely missed by both his family and all who knew him.
