AVILEEN RUTH (BOUTS) JOHNSON

BEAVER — Avileen Ruth (Bouts) Johnson, 89, of Beaver, Ohio passed away on November 9, 2016 at Minford Retirement Center.

Avileen, known as "Sig" to her siblings, was born September 10, 1927 on Lick Run Lyra in South Webster, Ohio to William Frederick and Della May (Cook) Bouts. Avileen was the third child and eldest daughter of eleven children, and often helped "mother" her younger siblings.

She served on the Homefront during WWII by quitting school in the 10th grade, when her brothers entered the service, to help run the family farm and sawmill. She often spoke of farming with the team of draft horses and operating the crosscut saw with her dad and sister Lil.

Avileen married Leo Burton "Bert" Johnson on May 12, 1947 in Greenup, KY. Leo preceded her in death on June 28, 2003.

Besides her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by three brothers: Charles "Bud", Paul, and Roy "Doc" Bouts, and one grandson, Denver Hicks. She is survived by brothers: W. Carl (Erma) Bouts of St. Simons Island, GA and Danny (Marge) Bouts of South Webster, sisters: Lily Bouts of Portsmouth, Shirley Imm of Anchorage, AK, Joyce (Lonnie) Crace of Lucasville, Donna (Greg) Barker and Kay McGee of Columbus, OH.

Also surviving are her three children: Robert Johnson of Peebles, Janet (Danny) Hicks of Waverly, and Karen (Russ) Nickell of Beaver; six grandchildren: Sabrena Johnson of Peebles, William Johnson of Lima, OH, Daniel (Monica) Hicks of Piketon, Della Hicks of Waverly, Jessica (Rodney) Waddell of Minford, and Jerrad (Amanda) Nickell of South Shore, KY; six great grandchildren: Denver Hicks II of Parkersburg, WV, Abigail, Trevor, Isabel and Eleanor Nickell of South Shore, KY, and Wyatt Waddell of Minford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday November 12, 2016 at the Davis Funeral Home in South Webster, Ohio. Burial will be in South Webster Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday at the Davis Funeral Home.
