Known as Cam, he was a son of Henry and Kesiah Spratt Buchanan.

Married 1st Chloe Morgan, daughter of James Morgan, on 3/27/1883, but she died not long after that. Cam married Chloe Trent on 7/23/1184, daughter of Alex and Betty Mounts Trent, and they had a large family. Their children were Bertha, Minnie Josie, Sadie Lake, Margaret "Maggie", Charles Wesley, Luther, Thomas Dick, Mona, Mary, Icy Vivian, John, Robert "Bob", and Rutha.

The family had a farm on Ned's Branch, a few miles upriver from Gilbert, West Virginia. Sometime after 1910 they moved to War Eagle, where Cam and Chloe lived the rest of their lives.

Cam died sometime between 1920 and 1925. He died before his youngest daughter Rutha was married. He was buried in the family cemetery in Buchanan Bottom at War Eagle.
