ELI H. "Arch" ARKIN, JR., 74, of Memphis, passed away December 27, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. He was born in Chicago where he remained until 1949 when his family moved to Orlando. After graduating from Orlando Senior High School in May of 1950, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team and fought in the Korean War. After his military service he joined the Memphis Police Department. In 1971, he was a graduate of the 89th Session of the FBI Academy, and in 1973 a graduate of the U.S. Secret Service School on Dignitary Protective Service. Retiring after 20 years as a law enforcement officer, at the rank of Lieutenant, he spent 20 years with Conwood Corps. Arch earned a degree in sociology from Memphis State University and a master's degree in criminology from the University of Mississippi. Arch Arkin is survived by his son, Charles L. Arkin; daughter-in-law, Kathryn; three grandsons, Phillip, Jonathan and Alex; daughter, Angela S. Arkin; brother, Dr. Charles Arkin; sister-in-law, Carol Pabian Arkin.
