Marty was a graduate of Canton High School class of 1957 and had a long career as a Superintendent of Audit at the Aetna Insurance Company, cultivating lifelong friendships with wonderful friends, retiring in 1996. An avid sports fan, to put it mildly, he could be found listening to one game on the radio while watching another on television, and reading the newspaper. He loved the Boston Red Sox, the NY Giants, and UCONN men's and women's basketball. He actively participated in the Canton Men's Softball league for many, many years. But it was his love and devotion for his wife and family that was an unbreakable bond that has left them all heartbroken at his loss.
Besides his loving wife, he also leaves his daughter Robbin Byrne Goodskey and her husband Robert and his grandchildren, his pride and joy and the apple of his eyes Natalie and Lillian Goodskey of New Hartford, along with many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James Guinan Byrne and Laura Bramhall Byrne.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, October 21st at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in New Hartford. Burial will be private at the convenience of the immediate family. He was our rock, the foundation of our love and blessings, words cannot express how greatly he will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society, CT Chapter, 659 Tower Avenue, Hartford, CT 06112, or The American Heart Association , P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MS 0224-7005. Arrangements are being handled by the Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc. To send online condolences please visit www.ahernfuneralhome.com
