Harriet Faig, a long-time resident of Leonia, NJ, passed away on September 22, 2016 in Hudson, Florida. Born in Leonia on October 4, 1922, she moved to Florida in 2010 to live with her daughter Susan and near her son, Steven. Predeceased by her parents, Samuel McAllister Faig and Doris Hurd Faig, and by her beloved Husband, Ralph Arthur Hoenie, she is survived by her brother, Wallace S. Faig (Barbara); her daughter, Susan R. Haake (Arthur); and her son, Steven R. Hoenie. Also surviving her are nephew, Kenneth Faig; niece, Carolyn Faig Carroll (Tom); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Harriet attended Leonia H.S. and Kathryn Gibbs Secretarial School. Later in life, she earned a Bachelors Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and in her seventies, a Master's Degree from Montclair State University. During World War II, she worked for the Standard Oil Co. of America in NYC and volunteered for the USO and the Leonia Civil Defense First Aid Squad. Always community-centered, she was a member of the following: the Leonia Volunteer Ambulance Corp; the Leonia Affordable Housing Committee ; the Leonia Board of Adjustment; the Leonia Public Library Board; member of her Leonia Lutheran Church; and the P.E.O. She also hosted NY Times Fresh Air Fund Children and was a Proof-reader Prentice Hall Publishing. Harriet married Ralph in August 1948 and became a Homemaker and Mother. When Ralph died suddenly in1966, Harriet went back to work in the Leonia Public School system. Always learning, her retirement years included Elder Hostel Tours to England, Scotland, Alaska and China. Cremation arrangements were handled by Dobies Funeral Home in Hudson, Florida. Harriet will be laid to rest with her husband Ralph at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, NJ. with a graveside Ceremony on Nov. 2nd at 11 AM.
