Patrick A. "Butch" Pomento, 77, of Rome, passed away peacefully at the Rome Center where he had been a resident for the past eight years on Friday, March 29, 2013.
He was born on February 5, 1936 in Rome, a son of Pasquale and Pasquelina DiCicco Pomento. He graduated from Rome Free Academy class of 1954, where he excelled in sports. He attended Utica College.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 and received commendations for marksmanship and was a sharpshooter. Patrick worked for many years as a mason, bartender at the Beeches and Savoy and most recently at the Turning Stone Casino. He was a great sports enthusiast and a whiz with the New York Times Crossword puzzles.
Patrick is survived by nephews and nieces. Patrick G.(Elaine) Pomento, Nick Facciolo, Nanette (Dennis) James, Donna Mungari, Sally Mungari and several great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Salmina ( Dominick) Mungari, Gloria ( Nick) Facciolo, a brother and sister-in-law, Ottilio (Rosemary) Pomento; great-nephew Matthew James; and a niece Deborah Facciolo.
The family would like to acknowledge Patrick's lifelong friendship with John D'Amore and John Santoro.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alison, the nurses and staff at the Rome Center for all their compassion and care during Patrick's stay
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Bottini Funeral Home. 120 W. Embargo St. with Rev. Joseph Sestito Officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
