Merle D. "Mike" Pottorf, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home. He was born December 17, 1925 at Oskaloosa, the son of George Whirlow and Ethel Roosevelt Edwards Pottorf. Mike graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 39 and a half years, retiring December 1, 1985. He was a founding member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Congregational Church in Bonita Springs, FL., Oskaloosa American Legion #36 and the United Rubber Workers #307. He married Esther "Carol" Harbour on July 4, 1954 at Oskaloosa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Rick Pottorf and Chet Pottorf, both of Ozawkie, three daughers, Joan (John) Blazek, Lawrence, Susan Newell (Dave Christy), Meriden, LeAnn Davis, Bonita Springs, Florida, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Cremation is planned. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Barnett Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.
