John Arnold Whitaker, who came to Indian Territory in 1884 and had lived the past 22 years in McAlester, passed away this morning after a long illness. He resided at 1010 East Miami Avenue. Mr. Whitaker was a life long member of the Baptist Church. He was born June 19, 1855 in Georgia. On December 29, 1878 he married Miss Gertrude Warterfield, in Arkansas. She and three of their sons survive to mourn is passing. The sons are, E. E. Whitaker, Chester A. Whitaker, both of McAlester and Floyd E. Whitaker, of Muskogee. Two other sons, Ira and Ernest Whitaker preceded the father in death. Mr. Whitaker also leaves a sister, Mrs. Julia Thompson, of Healdton, Okla.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services are to be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the umphrey Chapel, with Dr. Auguie Henry of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Funeral services for John Arnold Whitaker, pioneer who passed away Thursday morning, were being conducted this afternoon at the Humphrey chapel. Pallbearers were Ray Tuner, Orville Ashmore, Bill Ashmore, Boyd Collard, Tommie Richison, Joe F. Dickson. the honorary pallbearers were George Taylor, A. G. Hill, Charles Ritter, A. A. Watson, M. S. Duran.
