Resided in Edgecombe County prior to enlisting in Beaufort County at age 22, Jan 28, 1862. Entered regiment on Mar 10, 1862. Wounded in the elbow at or near Bethesda Church, VA on May 30, 1864. Returned to duty in Sep-Oct 1864. Promoted to Corporal on Nov 1, 1864. Captured at Petersburg VA, Mar 25, 1865. Confined and later released from Point Lookout, Maryland on Jun 22, 1865.
