SOUTH PORTLAND - Ilene B. Adams, 90, formerly of South Portland and Blakeslee, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, in Pennsylvania.
Ilene was born in Portland, Sept. 18, 1926, the daughter of Philip and Rebecca (Cohen) Israelson.
She was educated in Portland Schools, graduating from Portland High School class of 1943. She was a member of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland.
She worked as a bookkeeper at Boone's restaurant, Valle's Steak House and retired from Peoples Heritage Bank (now TD Bank North). She worked part-time at Jordan's Floral after retirement.
She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Portland Eagles Auxiliary.
She loved all animals and birds and volunteered at The Animal Refuge League for nine years. After moving to Pennsylvania, she became a "Friend of the Library" and was very active in their many projects. She was also a member of The Senior Connection of Sierra View.
She was predeceased by her son Daniel K. Broy in 1965; her husband Ralph F. Adams in 2004, brothers Byron Israelson and Sidney Israelson, sister Kathleen Dean; and stepson Harold Broy.
Survivors include her son, Steven and daughter-in-law Jessica Broy, stepsons Herbert and Albert Broy; grandchildren, Casey, Iris, Danielle, Amanda and Lynia; great-grandchildren Eddie, Cameron, Lillian, Opal, Elizabeth and Evelyn Schwab, and Danae Araya, Gunner Savant, Anthony Transue, Gregory Caiazzo, Aubrey Brooks; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours to be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US Route 1, Scarborough, ME, 04074. Interment to follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
