He was born December 30, 1926, in Ocala, FL, to Steven and Bessie Whisenant Podaras. At his age 2 his family moved to Gastonia, NC, where he spent most of his growing up years. He served in WW II in the U.S. Navy.
He was a graduate of NC Vocational Textile School in Belmont, NC. He earned an Associate in Arts degree from Emmanuel College, Franklin Springs, GA, where he began his preparation for the ministry. He also met Jewel there, and they were married in Wilmington on Sept. 3, 1953. He continued his studies at Wake Forest University.
He was ordained into the ministry by the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1953 and pastored churches in Falls of Neuse, NC, and Asheboro, NC, before becoming a general evangelist for the church in 1960, living in Wilmington until 1968, when he joined his brother in ministry in Gastonia, NC. He later pastored churches in Charlotte and Bessemer City, NC, before retiring and moving to Melbourne, FL, in 1997.
