OBITUARY - Burlington Hawkeye, Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa November 17, 1995:

Donald Oscar Swanson, 68, of Oakville, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at the Morning Sun Care Center. Born March 7, 1928 at Oakville, he was the son of Oscar and Jessie Reddick Swanson. He married Ruby Coleman Aug. 19, 1946 at Wapello. He was a farmer and longtime resident of Oakville. He has worked at Sheckler Implement at Wapello and also sold MoorMan's Feed. He was a school bus driver for the Wapello school district for about 10 years. He has been an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Wapello since 1947, serving as Sunday School teacher and serving on the church board for 43 years. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patty Grim of Oakville, Carolyn Wiseman of Baldwin City, Kan., and Kathy Odle of Wapello; three sons, Donald Swanson of Wapello, Dennis Swanson of Danville, Ind., and Kirk Swanson of Lafayette, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; one great grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and four sisters, Orletha Robertson of Columbus Junction, Velora Coleman of Wapello, and Leona Cross and Joyce Staats, both of Oakville. He was preceded in death by his parents and four nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Dudgeon McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The funeral for Mr. Swanson will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene in Wapello with the Revs. Donald R. Swanson, Robert Hamm and Leroy Boston officiating. Burial will follow in Edwards Cemetery at Oakville. A memorial has been established.
