Early Life: Bev was born on June 29, 1942, in Springs, South Africa, to Izak Charl and Mavis Eileen Futter Louw. She was the third child of four. She grew up in the gold mining town of Springs where she loved to ride bikes, play on the mine dumps, and steal fruit. She was a competitive swimmer who never lost a race. She was also a talented artist who attended art school in her teen years. She immigrated to Calgary, Canada, with her parents and two siblings in 1960.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Beverley moved to Provo, Utah, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Fine and Studio Arts and obtained her teaching credentials at Brigham Young University. After teaching for several years in Utah, Bev went on to teach in California and earned her Masters Degree at CSU Northridge in Educational Management and Law in 1970. She was the principal of Desert Winds, Lancaster High School and Monterey High School. During her career, she also worked at BYU for a time and at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a graphic artist. Bev never really retired; after her years in education, she went on to work jobs in China doing quality control, she did freelance artwork, worked at SecurityMetrics and recently taught at BYU Hawaii. She also took every opportunity to travel with friends, family or even alone. Beverley was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She loved working with the youth; she always encouraged them to see their potential and dream big. She was a wonderful teacher that inspired her students both in school and church settings. She loved traveling, reading novels, painting, drawing, telling stories, fancy cars, swimming and watching tennis, football, basketball, rugby, and most any sport. Her favorite places were South Africa, Southern Alberta, the California coast and most especially, Hawaii. Bev loved people and made friends wherever she visited or lived. She had a silly sense of humor and loved to entertain with her accent, stories and craziness. This world has lost a loving spirit who will be welcomed on the other side by her parents, her elder brother, Ron Louw, and her dogs. Beverley June Mavis Louw, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, as well as many other places, passed away in American Fork, Utah, on September 10, 2016. She was 74.
Survived By: Her sister, Marlene Orr, Alberta, Canada; her brother, Brian Louw, Orem, Utah; 12 nieces and nephews, dozens of great nieces and nephews and countless adopted nieces and nephews who all love her dearly and will greatly miss and never forget her.
