A native of Swain County, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was the daughter of the late Taylor and Dora Barker Parris and was preceded in death by her husband Hershel and son Lewis, five sisters and one brother.
Surviving are her daughters, Joeann Turpin of Bryson City, and Eva Crane and husband Ken of Walhalla, S.C.; one son, Harry Messer and wife Thelma of Salem, Va.; grandchildren, Anita Robinson and Tina Turpin of Bryson City, Alan Turpin of Oakboro, and Russell Hartberger of Walhalla; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Vinnie Phillips and husband W.B. (Junior), and Bertie Combs and husband Huey of Bryson City; brothers, Virgil Parris and wife Naomie of Cornelia, Ga., and Troy Parris and wife Oma of Bryson City; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Burch will officiate. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park.
