Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM, Sunday, September 11, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Mount Gilead. Rev. James Matheson, Rev. Mike Sykes, Rev. Corey D. Little and Rev. Duane Partin will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Matheson was born March 7, 1931 in Richmond County to the late John Clyburn Matheson, Sr. and Nell Pauline Martin Matheson. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Army. He was a retiree of Klausner Furniture and was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harold Turner Matheson, Jr., brothers, John Clyburn Matheson, Jr. and Bobby Ray Matheson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Saunders Matheson of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Matheson-Dameron and husband, Paul of Tishomingo, OK; son, William A. Matheson and wife, Kacey of Rockingham; grandchildren, Sarah Frances Smith of Greensboro, Shelby Marie, Jessica Lynne, Lilly Virginia and Alexandra Catherine Matheson all of Rockingham; brother, James L. Matheson of Wardensville, WV.
