Harry T. Burn, 78, of Athens, died on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at his residence.

A McMinn County native, he was a son of the late Harry T. Burn Sr. and Ellen Cotterell Burn.

He was a graduate of the McCallie School, Harvard College, and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. As a young man, he served as a page for the Tennessee State Senate during his father's tenure in the Legislature. He was an editorial associate of the Andrew Johnson papers, published by the University of Tennessee Press. He retired from Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).

An avid supporter of the local community and knowledgeable historian, he had served on the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum Board of Trustees and supported numerous other local causes. He was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors include several cousins and special friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Niota Cemetery, with burial to follow.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Forrest, Mike Boyd, Joe Allen, Tyler Boyd, Paul Willson, Rick Lay and Dr. Charles Cox.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral & Cremation Services prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum, 522 W. Madison Ave., Athens, TN 37303; or the E.G. Fisher Public Library, 1289 Ingleside Ave., Athens, TN 37303.
