Stephen R. Rhoades, 60, of Parks died at 1:45 a.m. Monday (Nov. 4, 2002) in his home.
He was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio.
He was a Marine veteran.
Mr. Rhoades worked for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Bureau of Prisons in the Federal Building for 24 years before retiring Jan. 1, 1993. After that, he worked in the security department at Eckerd Drugs in RIDC Park, O'Hara.
He was Freeport police chief from 1969 to 1972.
Mr. Rhoades was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, and the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago, Ill.
He enjoyed doing yard maintenance.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Teresa M. Fazekas Rhoades; three daughters, Mary Jo Rhoades of West Springfield, Mass., and Susan M. and Lisa M. Rhoades, both at home; his mother, Jane Shilling Martin of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Michele Rhoades of Columbus, Ohio.
There will be no public visitation. Friends and relatives will be welcomed for parting prayers of transfer at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at CLAWSON'S, Second at Main, Leechburg, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Gertrude Church, Vandergrift, with the Rev. Leo Rothrauff officiating. Burial will follow in St. Gertrude Mausoleum, Allegheny Township.
