Dr. Meriwether Taken By Death
Had Practiced Dentistry Here 36 years

Dr. Slade Meriwether, prominent Montgomery dentist, died at his home here at 10 o'clock Tuesday night, after a brief illness. He was stricken suddenly Monday morning.

Dr. Meriwether had practiced dentistry here for 36 years, and was one of Montgomery's most highly regarded citizens, both for his professional and personal qualities.

He was born at Mathews, Ala., Dec. 12, 1882. After attending Fonville Military School at Tuskegee, he was graduated from the Southern Dental College for Atlanta in 1904. He was for two years and instructor at that institution. He opened his office here in 1906, and had practiced here continuously since. Aside from his professional career, he was known as an enthusiastic sportsman and nature lover, and an authority on outdoor lore. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Keller Humphrey, of Montgomery; four brothers, Dr. Thomas Meriwether, of Wewahitchka, Fla., Dr. S. S. Meriwether, E. R. Meriwether and Lee Meriwether, all of Montgomery; and three sisters, Mrs. J. P. Riley, Mrs. M. F. Flinn and Mrs. E. G. Stovall of Montgomery.

Dentist Succumbs To Brief Illness
Dr. Slade Meriwether, a prominent Montgomery dentist for 36 years, died at his home here Tuesday night after a brief illness. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from Memory Chapel with Dr. D. P. Slaughter and Dr. Moore officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. J.R. Rutland, E. O. Hall, Dr. W. W. Wilkerson, Don S. Hall, T. B. Hill, Jr., and W. R. Sims.
Both professionally and personally Dr. Meriwether was esteemed as one of Montgomery's leading citizens. He was born at Mathews, Ala., Dec. 12, 1882, and received his professional training at the Southern Dental College in Atlanta where he also served as an instructor. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and an authority on nature study. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Hill, Jr., and W. R. Sims. Honorary pallbearers were George W. Smith, Judge W. W. Hill, Dr. T. B. Hill, J. P. Riley, Dr. B. Frank Jackson, Dr. Fred Wilkerson, Mayor Cyrus B. Brown, S. H. Dillard, R. H. Humphrey, Dr. George Blue, Col, Marion Rushton, Dr. Fred Reynolds, L. A. Sanderson, W. W. Yarbrough, Dr. T. Brannon Hubbard, Matt Lawson, and Dr. John Blue. Dr. J. H. Moore and Dr. D. P. Slaughter officiated. Burial was in Greenwood.
