Born November 10, 1917, in Madison County, she was also a resident of Asheville and Whittier where she retired from Social Services in Sylva. Bessie loved nothing more than having company when she cooked and told stories about her life and her family in the mountains.
She is preceded in death by her one son, Paul Leon Bartlett. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Stark; one grandson, four granddaughters, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Special thanks go to the staff at Asheville Health Care Center for the love and care they showed to Bessie during her stay there.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 24, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oakley.
