Francis J. Helms, 76, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016.

Francis was a member of Westerly Hills Baptist Church, sang in the church choir, and sang at local nursing homes weekly. She retired from Bell South with over 20 years of service. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, nature, and loved all animals. She even had pet squirrels that came to the house daily for food. Francis spent a lot of her time playing the keyboard and singing.

Mrs. Helms was preceded in death by her parents; John and Minnie Jackson, brother, John Jackson, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Michele Helms.

Mrs. Helms is survived by her husband of 53 years, James L. Helms, Jr., daughter, Tammy Smithwick of Whiteville, sons; Jimmy Helms (Stephanie) of Stanfield, Donnie Helms of Charlotte, Jimi Gibson (Lina) of Pineville, sisters; Dolores Warren of Marion, Billie Kilby of Rock Hill, grandchildren; Jordon Helms, Chassidy Jones, Zach Helms, Crystal Smithwick, Candice Smithwick, Chad Smithwick, and great-grandchildren, Matthew Jones and Julianna Helms.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 at Westerly Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westerly Hills Baptist Church, 232 S. Sutton Rd., Fort Mill, SC 29708.
