EDEN Wilfred "Bill" Joseph Austin, 89, passed away peacefully in Kennett Square, PA, on July 18, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Paldan) Austin; his children, Martha Austin King (Thomas), Marshall Austin (Stephanie), Joseph Austin (Susan), and Laura Austin Allen (Stanley); daughter-in-law, Lisa Mitschke Austin; his thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son James Craig Austin. Bill was born and raised in the Detroit, MI area and spent the majority of his life living in Michigan and North Carolina with his wife and family. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked in the transportation and logistics industry as an account executive for over 35 years. A frequent volunteer in his community, Bill was committed to working with hospice patients, as well as volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He had a passion for gardening and sports, but he truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Bill will be missed by his family and the communities where he has lived and served. To honor him, a visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27 from 1:00 3:00 PM, at the Morehead Fair House (Fair Funeral Home) 423 Boone Road, Eden, NC. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Reidsville, NC.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Austin Health Center, c/o Rockingham County Healthcare Alliance, 124 S. Scales Street, Reidsville, NC 27320.
