Billy Earl Holland went home to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was bornin Haywood County, N.C., and resided in Hampton. He was a member of Parkview Church of God and retired from the Virginia Church of God State Camp Grounds.

Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his son, Billy Leroy Holland, his father, R. Velt Holland, his brother, Rick V. Holland, his sister, Frances Holland.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Mintz Holland; his daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Steve Poston of Hampton; his son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Shannon Holland of Chesapeake; his mother, Hattie Holland, his sister, Annabell Mann, his sister and brother-in-law, Fannie and Jack Mason, his sister, Edith Ford, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Betty Holland, all of Canton, N.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Frances Holland of Parrotsville, Tenn.; his daughter-in-law and her husband, Debbie and Kenny Spaulding of Newport News; seven grandchildren, Patresa, Paul, Marcie, Marc, Mandy, John and Megan; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Bethany, Paul, Paris and Logan; and his very close friends, Joe and Velma Hamilton, Waynard and Elizabeth Caldwell, Horace and Lois Harris, Melvin and Lee Jarrett, Wilbur and Barbara Stiller, Bob and Nancy Richards, Dave and Doris Childers, the entire Mintz family and all his church families.

A funeral service was held at Parkview Church of God, 1116 Briarfield Road, Newport News, by the Rev. David Hagee and Dr. Harold Bare.
