Mildred "Millie" Louise Adams, 94
OGUNQUIT - Millie Adams passed away peacefully at Huntington Common in Kennebunk after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, on Aug. 7, 2016.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1921, in Ogunquit, the daughter of Nelson C. Adams Sr. and Clara Dixon. Millie was the second oldest of eight children. She graduated Wells High School and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II as a welder's apprentice. Upon the end of the war, she began a 39-year career with Central Maine Power Company in York. Millie knew just about everyone in York, Ogunquit and Wells.
She was a loving and devoted daughter and lived with her mother until her death in 1984. After that, she spent 20 years volunteering at York Hospital as a "greeter" and also worked in the gift shop there. She went on to work at the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce and helped many tourists find what they were looking for. Millie was a member of Zonta of York County, an organization of professional women who encourage and sup- port women in the workplace.
She belonged to the Cape Neddick Baptist Church and over the years volunteered, in various ways, to better the lives of others here in the USA and abroad. Millie also volunteered at Laudholm Farm in Wells as a docent. She enjoyed part-time work into her 90s, working at the Wells Laundromat. She was a hard worker, a go-getter and a people person. She loved taking care of others.

Millie is survived by her niece, Jennifer Kearns, Jennifer's husband, Robert, and their son, Christopher; a sister, Marion Locke of Goffstown, N.H.; a brother, Bernard Adams of Enfield, Conn.; and a cousin, Becky Gove and her husband, Ed of York.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Nelson Adams Jr., Richmond Adams, and Marlow Adams; and sisters Virginia Hopkins and Marcia Hilbourne.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by Huntington Common staff and York Hospice.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a service to celebrate Millie's life at the Cape Neddick Baptist Church in Cape Neddick on Aug. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place thereafter at the First Parish Church Cemetery in York, with a reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation in Millie's name at Alz.org.
