Robert Paul Hensley 84, of 20 McKinney Rd., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 25th following a long illness. He was a native of Buncombe County and was preceded in death by his father James J. Hensley, mother Pearl Swann Poche. He was a member of Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church. Mr. Hensley was a musician and singer and leaves behind a legacy of music and his love of southern gospel and blue grass music. He strongly instilled this into the hearts of his children and grandchildren resulting in an entire family of musicians, songwriters and artists. He encouraged each one to be the best they could be and use the gifts God bestowed upon them.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years Dorothy Proffitt Hensley, three daughters; Loyce Barber and husband Jimmy of Weaverville, Judith Ramsey and husband Bob of Morristown, Tn. and Gail Hensley of Weaverville, grandchildren; Bryan and Jonathan Barber, Tammy Campbell, Tracy Thompson and Scott Anders, six great grandchildren, one half sister, Beulah Howard of South Gate, Mi. and one half brother, Eugene Hensley of Unicoi, Tn.
The funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm Monday, November 27th in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, 7626 Hwy 213, Mars Hill, N. C. The Revs Stanley Peek and Bob Ramsey will officiate. Antioch Baptist Church Memorial Gardens.
