OBITUARY

Charles Howard ("Bing") Brinegar, Jr., M.D.
November 4, 1932 - June 15, 2016

Charles Howard "Bing" Brinegar Jr., M.D., died June 15, 2016. He was born Nov. 4, 1932, a first son to Charlie and Annie Brinegar at La Jolla Scripps Hospital, San Diego, California. He was nicknamed after Bing Crosby.

At ten years, Bing was golfing and it became a lifetime passion. Also around 10 his parents started taking Bing and his younger brother, Mack, camping in Yosemite. It became an annual event; 67 straight years of visits to his favorite place on earth.

Bing graduated from San Diego Seventh-day Adventist Academy before going north to attend Pacific Union College (Angwin, CA) where he majored in speech. In 1963 he graduated from Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, CA) with the doctor of medicine degree; interned at Washington Sanitarium and Hospital (Takoma Park, MD); was drafted by the U.S. Army, serving in Sacramento through December of 1966; back to Loma Linda for a residency, then a fellowship in diabetes at the prestigious Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Mass. Except for three years of service at Guam Seventh-day Adventist Clinic (1996-1999), Bing directed and worked at the Diabetes Treatment Center at Loma Linda University Medical Center and practiced at the Faculty Medical Offices his entire medical career. He was active in teaching and serving in a variety of positions in the LLU School of Medicine until his retirement in 2014. He was a gentle man, always a gentleman, respected, and admired by students, co-workers and patients alike.

Bing's personal relationship with his God and church remained a motivating factor his whole life. He served as deacon, elder and youth director. He would often take youth groups on camping/hiking trips in the Sierras introducing and deepening their appreciation for God's Second Book.

Bing is survived by his daughter Lisa Meter, sons Jeffrey and Kevin Brinegar, their spouses and four grandchildren; wife Meredith; and brother Mack. He was also loved by three stepchildren, Colleen Landis and Orrin Banta and Athiah Chaudry, their spouses, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Private services for family were held June 20, 2016, at Emmerson-Bartlett Mortuary in Redlands; inurnment was on June 23 at Riverside National Cemetary.

A Celebration of Life is planned for the evening of Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 6:30 pm, Calimesa Seventh-day Adventist Church, Calimesa, CA.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Parkinson's Foundation, or Yosemite Conservancy.
