February 22, 2016 Bridget Hedison, wife of actor David Hedison and mother of Alexandra and Serena Hedison, died of breast cancerin the loving arms of her family on February 22. She was 71 years old. Bridget was born on April 16th 1944 in Cape Town, South Africa where she remained until she was fourteen years of age. Unhappy with the political landscape, Bridget's mother Renée returned to her native England in order to give Bridget a different upbringing. From Torquay and then London, Bridget completed her education in the UK where she was an excellent student. Her strong gift for languages and her brilliant mind brought her to study in Paris where she became fluent in French. In her late teens and early twenties, Bridget continued to travel the world. In 1967 while in Positano, Italy, she met the love of her life, actor David Hedison (The Fly, Voyage To The Bottom of the Sea). They married at the Brompton Oratory in London in 1968 and soon after moved to Los Angeles. In the 1970's Bridget and David raised their two daughters in Malibu, which was one of the happiest times of her life. In 1980, the Hedisons moved to Beverly Hills, to the house that became her home for the rest of her life. Bridget was a brilliant cook and their hilltop canyon home was always the magnet and meeting point for countless friends and family. She was endlessly interested and informed about international politics and culture, and spoke many languages. Bridget was truly a citizen of the world. After their girls were grown, Bridget channeled her longtime love of gardens and started a successful landscape design business. Her garden designs grace some of the most spectacular properties in Los Angeles and beyond. Bridget is survived by her husband David, her daughters Alexandra, a fine art photographer and home designer, Serena, a film and television producer, and daughter in law Jodie Foster, a film actress and director. Bridget is remembered with love by her family in South Africa and London.
