George Edward Hughes, 83, of Simon, WV passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at
Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born on August 28, 1932 in Akron,
OH a son of the late Charles Washington Hughes Sr. (Deceased) and Margaret McMullen-Hughes (Deceased).
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Mary Lee Hughes-Mathers (Deceased), a brother Charles Washington Hughes Jr. (Deceased), an aunt Ruth Lee Williams (Deceased)and a sister-in-law Karen Hughes (Deceased).
He worked many years as a tow truck driver. He was an US Army National Guard Veteran and a member of the Baileysville Baptist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include two brothers Raymond H. Hughes of Clear Fork and Ralph E. Hughes and wife Evelena of Simon; a longtime friend Conrad Dixon of Inkster, MI and several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. He will be laid to rest in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
