Parham was drafted into CSA service in 1862, joining his brothers who had enlisted in 1861. Parham registered at Kentuck in Pittsylvania county. His brothers, Green and Booker enlisted at Republican Grove in Halifax county. They all fought with the 38th Virginia and were all in Pickett's Charge at the battle of Gettysburg, July 1863. Green was killed, Booker was taken prisoner and died a prisoner at Elmira, NY in 1864. Parham was wounded but survived and was sent to Chimbarazo Hospital in Richmond.
After recuperating, Parham was back in service and fought in the battle of Chester Station, just south of Richmond, in May 1864 where he was severely wounded. Taken again to Chimbarazo Hospital, he was transferred to Danville Hospital to recuperate closer to home and family. No record of him entering service again.
