James Everette Shifflett, 92, of Penn Laird, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

James was born in Greene County, and was the son of the late, Irvin Lee and Ella Shifflett.

On July 23, 1960, he married Bonnie Gardner Shifflett, who preceded him in death on September 29, 2010. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Luther Shifflett, Robert Shifflett, Joe Shifflett, Lynwood “Tom” Shifflett, Russell Shifflett, Leady Shifflett, and Prentiss Shifflett; and sisters, Beatrice Kyger and Ellen Kyger.

He worked in construction for many years for Harman Construction and DuPont. He loved and enjoyed his 1955 Chevy truck. James was a “Jack of All Trades!!”

James is survived by two sisters, Bertha Mae Downs and Lorraine Bosserman; a goddaughter, Jean (Jeannie) Roske and husband, Marlin; god granddaughters, Sherry Saunders and husband, Jimmy, and Lisa Lochner and husband, Danny; great-goddaughters, Olivia and Victoria Lochner; great-godson, Wyatt Saunders; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11am, Monday, July 18, 2016, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11am prior to the service.
